All I have to do is to install the mysql-connector and to configure NetBeans to compile on CygWin. Now, I’m having this Linux-like environment running on my Windows. bashrc file should exist and contain also the line vimrc file just like in the post for Solaris. To make CygWin more friendly (I have this friendliness obsession 😉 ) I’m using PuTTYcyg, a great expansion of PuTTY. Of course I didn’t unselect anything from the default list. When installing CygWin, you must make sure you install gcc (and all that it depends on), libncurses-devel, readline and libreadline (from the Devel category). Now, to make it compile, I needed gcc, so I installed CygWin. It has a C/C++ plugin implementing support for these two languages. So, to build a POSIX C application on Windows I recommend using NetBeans IDE (6.8 at this time) – it has lots of features, making it a good development environment. This took Visual Studio out of the equation. But the application will run on a Linux server (or Unix), so it had to be POSIX compatible.

But I wanted to develop my application in a full-fledged IDE, and because my workstation runs Windows (7 – big fan) I needed to make it compile somehow on Windows. MySQL provides us the mysql-connector that has a C implementation and binaries for the most important platforms.

But then, mainly because of performance issues, one might want to implement that project in C – so there’s the need to connect from a C application to the MySQL server. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE EXACT NAMES AND THE VERSIONS FOR THE REQUIRED PACKAGES (NAMES AND VERSIONS DISPLAYED IN THE CYGWIN SETUP.EXE INSTALLER WHEN PROMPTED) NEEEDED FOR C & C++ PROGRAMMING USING NETBEANS IDE 7.Because MySQL became one of the most used database engine in the world and because of the ease of development in PHP with MySQL, most of the prototype application can be developed at first using this combination (PHP+MySQL). My question is : Which exact packages do i install using the Cygwin setup.exe installer so that i can create C & C++ projects using Netbeans IDE 7.2? and what other steps do i have to take note to ensure complete successful installation? do i have to wait all the selected required packages to be installed? Because i i think i didn't really see some required packages with exact names and versions. Have i made some mistake here? like installing the wrong packages or something else?Īre there packages shown in the Cygwin setup.exe installer that contains exact names and exact version that is compatible with NetBeans IDE 7.2? This i am not too sure. I tried to create the C C++ project using the Netbeans IDE 7.2 and the IDE pops out a dialog message saying that there was no c c++ compilers found. I added the folder path into the PATH variable in the windows 7 environment variables window. I noticed that some packages came in some sort of 'zip' file with tar.gz extension. I browsed the installation folder and i saw some packages i selected were installed. The installation took up a long time so i stopped after about 45 minutes or so. Then i proceed on to install the selected packages I selected those packages that has contains the following names I want to install the Cygwin C and C++ compilers so that i can create C and C++ projects using NetBeans 7.2

I am not very sure which exact package to install when the Cygwin setup.exe installer prompted for the selection of packages to download and install.

I have tried to run Cygwin setup.exe that has the most recent version of the Cygwin DLL is 1.7.16-1. I have read the documentation on how to install the Cygwin C C++ compilers. I am very new to Cygwin, C, C++ and NetBeans IDE 7.2.
